African pop star Youssou Ndour launches TV station (AP)

In this Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2010 photo, Senegalese pop star Youssou Ndour performs at the launch of his television station, TFM, in Dakar, Senegal. Outside of Senegal, the 50-year-old chart-topping artist is best-known for his grooving mbalax beat. In his native country, he is also known for his scathing critique of the ruling party. Senegal's government has forbidden Ndour from doing newscasts on his new channel, and the license allowing him to do 'cultural programming' was only granted after a two-year stalemate.
